Leather and Lace – Stevie Nicks Tribute Wows Crowd at Baltimore’s Largest Community Fair

This year’s Dundalk Heritage Fair that hosts approximately 10,000 people through the weekend was once again a huge success!

The band was introduced by one of Baltimore’s favorite Radio Jocks, Mike Brilhart from 100.7  The Bay, Baltimore’s Classic Rock. Mike got the crowd fired up for the show and Leather and Lace proceeded to Rock the Socks off the the whole field!  Fans were dancing and singing along during the full two hour concert.

Mark Pheobus, a member of the heritage fair committee had this to say about Leather and Lace’s performance…

“I would like to congratulate Leather and Lace for one fantastic show at the Dundalk Heritage Fair on Sunday June 29th! Ocie Melanson could not have sung more beautifully in honor of Stevie Nicks, What a tribute!  The crowd that kept growing and growing, it was the largest I have seen in years, may even have been the biggest ever for an afternoon concert!! Ocie and Leather and Lace were amazing. Believe it; this band drew a crowd because of their talents. Again I want to state, it was one of the largest crowds ever!! There were thousands of fans applauding those great talents.  Thanks for an excellent show and tribute to Stevie Nicks and Fleet wood Mac.”

Other comments the band received from fans were quite humbling and inspiring.  One fan said that her friend who joined her mid show actually though she was watching Stevie Nicks until she was informed that it was a tribute to Stevie Nicks!

The most amazing moment in the show was at the end when Ocie imitates Stevie’s “Edge Walk” and she was showered with gifts and flowers from the fans.  She was absolutely overwhelmed and filled with tears of elation as she exclaimed proudly over the microphone “We Love you all so much, thank you”.   10512307_778279372203908_1512262163_o

Leather and Lace did a great job warming up the crowd preparing them for the evening headliner Travis Tritt, the band is looking forward to next year’s fair and thanks everyone involved for having the band be such a big part of the event this year.

Sold Out! Leather and Lace performs to sold out crowd May 3rd

Letaher and Lace Stevie Nicks Tribute

Leather and Lace – Stevie Nicks Tribute

Performs to Sold Out Crowd

Letaher and Lace Stevie Nicks Tribute

At the conclusion of May 3rds Sold Out Show Leather and Lace took a bow to an excited crowd

May 3rd was an exciting evening for the fans and Leather and Lace Stevie Nicks Tribute Band
at the American Legion in Laurel Maryland.  Many folks commented before buying their tickets “Why would we do a show at an American Legion it must be a small place?” Little did they know the venue holds 400 people and has a massive stage worthy of any concert at any live music venue in a major metropolitan area.

From the perspective of the stage the crowd was fantastic and the fans were going wild.  Everyone, including the band, came ready to rock out and have an awesome time.  Fans had their Leather and Lace T-Shirts on crowding the front of the stage yelling for their favorite Stevie Nicks songs to be played and the band didn’t disappoint.  Always a highlight, during “Landslide” Ocie (Stevie Nicks in the band) was approached with gifts and hugs from fans while tears were shed as almost the whole hall sang along, it was certainly a moment to remember.

One fan and friend of the band, Mike Sarzo, wrote a great review on the show here, and just because I say he is a friend don’t let that fool you Mike Sarzo is a hardcore reviewer who speaks his mind.

All in all it was a terrific night and one that people will remember for a long time, Band and Fans alike!

Reaching out to fans

Leather and Lace Needs Your Assistance!

We love our fans, you are our friends and…

It is the time of year when we work hard at trying to get booked at the summer concerts and festivals that are featured everywhere in the mid-Atlantic area.

Many of our fans are constantly asking us when we will be coming to a location close to their homes in order to make it easier for them to get out and see us.  As you can imagine, trying to find all the summer festivals and concert series can be a very daunting task for us, no matter how hard we try.  Therefore I am reaching out to you, the friends of the band for your help. Here are a few things you can do in order to improve our chances of playing a venue nearby.

1. If you know of a Festival, Summer Concert Series or Venue you feel we would fit into send us whatever info you have through our Contact Form

2. Speak with the organizers and venues on our behalf, there is nothing like the excitement of a person who has seen our band to get the organizers excited about speaking with us.  The folks that organize these events are VERY busy and get contacted by so many bands that they eventually scream UNCLE! But word of mouth is good and very helpful. Once you have had a chance to “Name Drop” Leather and Lace, get their contact info and name and once again…hit us up with that organizers info. Having that name sure helps  big time!

3.  Wear your Leather and Lace T-Shirt and tell your friends about the band.  Did I mention word of mouth before. Heck yeah!! Word of mouth is what grows an audience and we love our audience, you guys mean the world to us!! Without you there is no reason to perform and you never know who you may be speaking with one day and that person may turn around and say…let’s get that band playing our festival!

We appreciate you guys and can’t wait to see you at the next show you are able to attend.

Cheers,

Russ & Ocie

(Exclusive for Worldwide Talent Magazine)
Written by B.M. Thomas

It was only three years ago when Ocie Melanson approached her husband, Russ Clarke and told him she was joining a band. Russ, a professional musician who had retired from playing music ten years before said, “No way! You don’t know the business.”

In her own right, Ocie is a remarkable vocalist who is constantly being compared to Stevie Nicks. One moment Ocie can go from sounding like Stevie to suddenly pulling out all the stops convincingly singing country or hard rock. It was this talent that got her noticed by a local band and ultimately hired. She used this to win her compelling argument letting Russ know she was joining this band unless he came out of retirement.

Russ finally agreed to pick up the guitar again, acquiring an Ovation Electric Acoustic guitar. Then Russ and Ocie started “AJ’s Garage – Rockin’ Acoustic” Music Group that featured them playing songs from the 60’s through today’s hits. For the next two years they made their mark on the local Baltimore/Annapolis acoustic music scene by working a heavy schedule that included lots of waterfront dock bars during the summer.

As they continued to make their mark, many fans started asking why Ocie didn’t have a full band, especially one that could cover Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks songs. “Every time we perform Landslide you can hear a pin drop and everyone’s head snaps around no matter what they are doing,” Russ told us. “People close their eyes and come running up telling us how they really thought they were hearing Stevie Nicks in the house!”

It was becoming evident that they had to seriously start on building a Tribute project, after all these people couldn’t be wrong or be hearing things.

“We started our search for the right musicians, and it wasn’t easy. Baltimore isn’t like Nashville or L.A. where you have a concentrated area of top national players. It’s not that they aren’t there, they are just tough to come by because everybody is working, so the search dragged on for some time,” Ocie explained. “We had a bass player first while we searched for our drummer. The drummer search was long and tedious but we knew we had our Mick when Glenn Logwood showed up. He had purchased a set of wind chimes just for the audition and brought in this amazing drum set. He played every tune to perfection! We then set our sights on a back up vocalist, this turned out to be a bit easier, but the toughest part was landing a great keyboardist. As tough as it was we finally got our guy, Keyboardist Ro Cube, to round out the band and Leather and Lace – A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks was born.”

After their first gig together it became obvious to both Russ and Ocie that they would have to make an adjustment at the Bass and backup vocalist position. That is when they brought in Tim Gove on Bass and Amy Strow on backup vocals.

This current band lineup is:

Ocie as Stevie
Russ Clarke – Guitar
Glenn Logwood – Drums
Tim Gove – Bass
Ro Cube – Keys
Amy Strow – Back Up Vocals

This lineup has an incredible chemistry. “We couldn’t be happier or more excited! This is an incredible band and when we play people swear they are hearing Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks. Ocie even makes all her Stevie Nicks costumes and changes capes every song to match what Stevie traditionally wears. She literally has to bring a clothes rack to hang all her outfits off stage.” Russ explained, and then continued, “Our drummer is tall like Mick so he has a striking resemblance to him. I personally have taken to playing with no pick on any song that we are replicating Lindsey Buckingham on guitar, I find this to be important in trying to match his tone but a difficult task that requires some serious practice time.”

As we all know, this is an interesting time in the music world because tribute bands are taking off. Many people do not want to pay the high ticket price to see the actual artists so many are turning to tribute shows. Recently, Fox news did a story on this subject, which can be seen at the following link; http://video.foxnews.com/v/1920097770001/cover-bands-a-boom-in-weak-economy/

Leather and Lace is starting to fill that void on the east coast of the United States. Ocie tells us, “You can come out and see us at a fraction of the cost, and in many cases for free at concerts sponsored by cities and fairs. Recently we performed for The City of Frederick Maryland at a free concert in the park. We performed for about 1500 people.”

Amy Strow, back up vocalist shared, “It is really fun to go into a show where the majority of the people haven’t seen you and they have their arms crossed thinking, yeah O.K., sure Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks…we’ll see. Then the band starts playing, sounds great and they loosen up a little. Then Ocie walks out in costume and the mouths gape a little, then Ocie opens her mouth and starts singing and all jaws hit the floor. The whole band just giggles inside and enjoys the moment. From that point forward it’s on and they are drinking the cool aide…it’s so cool to hear everyone singing along with us.” She also added how great it is for her to be a part of a band that doesn’t miss the nuances in the music and how joyful it is for her as a singer to be around that level of musicianship.

Ro Cube, who plays keyboards with a number of outstanding musical groups in addition to Leather and Lace, added to the conversation, “I have a really busy schedule, so busy it has taken us months to get together for an official band photo, but this project is cool. I am not in the band because I need work; I am in this band because it is 100% all about entertainment and quality of musicianship. Russ and Ocie are so dedicated to bringing the fans what they seek and they deliver it every time. This group is relatively young but I see a bright future to entertain the masses, I like that…a lot! Watch out for this band, Ocie is the real deal.”

Leather and Lace Photo Shoot – Behind The Scenes

Leather and Lace - A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac & Stevie Nicks

Written by P.B. Fly

Leather and Lace spent an evening with professional photographer Michael Dunphy from Avonlee Photography.

To say the band had a good time is an understatement, the evening was perfect and Michael kept things moving. During the shoot Michael said “How professional everyone in the band is and how it is obvious they are all serious about everything the band does”.  Micheal could not be more correct, every musician is a top player with years of experience and  brings incredible energy to the project and stage for fans and lovers of Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks.

The band shot their new promo images at Glenview Mansion in Rockville, MD a very scenic spot with lots of wildlife and pedestrian traffic.  One highlight was a dog that mysteriously seemed to appear in every location around the mansion where the band was shooting, ultimately ending up in one of the photographs.

Behind the scenes the band had a blast but when it was time to get to work the band was all business! On Band leader Russ Clarke’s facebook page he posted…Today’s Ro Cube Leather and Lace Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band photoshoot quote…(as Ro looks in the mirror)
“If your gonna do a photo shoot, you gotta DO a photo shoot…you gotta do it right!”

What can I say…we don’t call him “Mr. Hollywood” for nothin’!
